Requesting a Bugler and/or Firing Squad
A bugler and firing squad traditionally are used at the funeral of a military veteran to render honors to a deceased person who has served our country. Normally, a firing squad fires 3 volleys, and then a bugler plays taps. However, a bugler, or a bugler and firing squad, may also be appropriate for certain other memorial ceremonies. In order to be considered for a bugler or a bugler and firing squad, the ceremony must honor at least one military veteran.
To request a Connecticut National Guard Bugler or Firing Squad, event organizers should submit a completed DD Form 2536 (Request for Armed Forces Participation in Events) (PDF).
Requests should be submitted 60 days prior to the event. Less than 60 days notice greatly reduces the chance that a Bugler or Firing Squad will be available. Requests received 60 days or closer to the event generally are NOT considered.
