26th “Yankee” Brigade welcomes new commander

WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Maj. Gen. Steven Wickstrom, commander, 42nd Infantry Division, passes the ‘colors,’ signifying the transfer of command, to Col. Francis B. Magurn, incoming commander, 26th “Yankee Brigade, Massachusetts Army National Guard, during a change of command ceremony on the Wakefield Green, May 6, 2012. Brig. Gen. John A. Hammond relinquished command to Magurn during the ceremony. The 26th "Yankee" Brigade, Massachusetts Army National Guard, was formed Sept. 1, 2008 and stationed at Camp Curtis Guild, Reading, Mass. The 26th traces its lineage to the 26th Infantry Division formed in Boston in 1917, which fought in WWI, WWII and most recently, Afghanistan. The 26th provided command and control, security and support operations for the nearly 10,000 U.S. and coalition forces operating in Kabul, Afghanistan from April 2011 to January 2012.
