Bruins Salute the troops
BOSTON - The Boston Bruins, USO, and the  Massachusetts and Maine Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Battalions teamed up to pay tribute to local servicemembers during Military Appreciation Night during a game at the  TD Garden here, Nov. 15, 2010.

The game between the New Jersey Devils and the Bruins featured the national anthem performed by the 215th Army band’s Voices of Freedom and color guard by the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment, a ceremonial puck drop by Staff Sgt. Michael Downing, shout outs from overseas on the large Garden HDX scoreboard and a recognition ceremony during the 2nd intermission.

The ceremony highlighted the recent accomplishments of six guardsmen who each received the distinction of being the honor graduate from their advanced individual training service schools.

The Soldiers recognized were(L-R)  Pvt. Cory  M. Vasquez, Pfc. William M. Fitzpatrick, Pfc. Benjamin J. Cohen, Pvt. Michael T. Yelle, all of the Massachusetts  Army National Guard, and Pfc. Benjamin Hafford and Pvt. Michael Walsh, both  from the Maine Army National Guard.

The servicemembers in attendance received tickets from donations by Bruins ticket holders and generous contributions by Bruins players Mark Stuart and Blake Wheeler.

The Bruins capped off the evening with a 3-0 win over the Devils with goals by Michael Ryder, Nathan Horton and, rather fittingly, Wheeler.
