BOSTON – Maj. Gen. Joseph C. Carter, The Adjutant General, Massachusetts National Guard, and Capt. Mary Jo Majors, Nurse Corps, United States Naval Reserves, pose for a picture after the “Women Are Veterans Too” ceremony at the Massachusetts State House, Oct. 28, 2010. Majors received the Massachusetts Outstanding Woman Veteran Award.

"Currently, the Massachusetts National Guard has more than 1200 women within its ranks.  Their selfless dedication, contributions and sacrifices mirror those of all women veterans before them, so let us remember, honor and salute the service of all female veterans.  Also, let us renew our national promise to fulfill our sacred obligation to all our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much for the freedom of all," said Carter.
