MILFORD, MASS. – Col. Frank Magurn, Chief of the Joint Staff, and Sgt. 1st Class Jimmy Lok, 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Regiment, salute the pictures of fallen Massachusetts Guardsmen after placing a wreath in front of the Memorial Portrait Wall during a ceremony at the Massachusetts National Guard's Joint Force Headquarters, Milford Mass., May 25, 2012. Soldiers and Airmen of the Massachusetts National Guard gathered to remember those Servicemembers who have fallen during times of conflict. The first national observance of Memorial Day took place at Arlington National Cemetery, May 30, 1868 as a way to remember fallen Servicemembers of the Civil War. In 1971 Congress changed the day to the last Monday in May and included all those who died during times of conflict.
