WILBRAHAM, Mass. – Spc. Kenneth Loynes, a combat engineer, 379th Engineer Company, 101st Engineer Battalion, Massachusetts Army National Guard, uses a chain saw to quickly cut down a tree that had fallen on Springfield Street, blocking half the road and creating a potential traffic hazard, here, October 30, 2011. An early snow storm dumped a large amount of snow on Massachusetts, bringing down trees, power lines and causing major traffic disruptions. Governor Deval Patrick mobilized members of the Massachusetts National Guard to assist hard hit communities. “We’re really on our own, even the private contractors aren’t available”, said Francis Nothe, fire chief, Wilbraham Fire Department, having the Guard come in is a blessing … the Guard brings the manpower and the equipment we need to keep the roads open.”
