Command Sergeant Major Robert Callender
CSM Robert Callender enlisted in the U.S. Army as an armor soldier in 1981 and completed three First Sergeant assignments with armor and cavalry units in Korea and Fort Carson, Colorado. He deployed to Iraq with the 3d Armored Cavalry Regiment as the Regimental Operations Sergeant Major in 2003 and was later appointed Command Sergeant Major of the 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment. He returned to Iraq in 2005 with 1-64 having completed the transformation of a tank battalion to a 900-Soldier combined arms team while keeping a fixed deployment schedule. CSM Callender concluded his active duty career as Sergeant Major of the 1st ROTC Brigade at Fort Devens and is a graduate of both Park University and the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 51). His awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, and Combat Action Badge.
