Brigadier General Gary Pappas
BG Gary Pappas was commissioned a Field Artillery officer in 1971. He commanded both the 101st and 102nd Field Artillery Battalions as well as the 42nd Infantry Division Artillery, developing key training relationships with the 103rd Field Artillery Brigade and 1st Corps Artillery. BG Pappas served as Commander, Massachusetts Army National Guard from June, 2000 through October, 2005 and was one of the nation’s first dual-status commanders, supervising both Title 10 and 32 forces during security operations supporting the 2004 Democratic National Convention conducted in Boston.
BG Pappas’ military education includes the Field Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Command and General Staff College, and a Senior Service College Fellowship at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University. He is a graduate of the Suffolk University School of Law and his awards include the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.
