The Rhode Island National Guard’s Youth Development Adventure Camp
is a 4 day intensive, teambuilding / confidence development course aimed at youth between 12 and 17 years of age.
Participants will be exposed to leadership and teamwork concepts through the use of mental and physical training. Each individual will be challenged by using various games, teamwork activities and their own inner strength. Interested individuals should have the willingness to learn new concepts, work as a team and stretch beyond their current expectations. Built into this program are daily drug awareness themes.
The RI National Guard Youth Development Adventure Camp is offered to all community organizations from June through August.
A typical 4-day camp:
Day One (Tuesday)
Learn first aid, compass reading, pace count and how to build a litter. Physical training and drill and ceremony activities are also included. All participants will be issued BDUs.
Day Two (Wednesday)
Mission Day - Rescue a downed pilot. All participants will be given coordinates to a downed pilot. Then campers will navigate a land/navigation course and travel through the woods of Fogarty. They will traverse a river by building a one-rope bridge, perform first aid and carry the pilot to safety.
Day Three (Thursday)
Practice on the low ropes course prepares you for the high ropes course.
Day Four (Friday)
Test your skills on the ropes course. Individuals are encouraged to challenge themselves on this highly motivating high ropes course. Challenge your self-esteem and use your team skills 50 feet in the air. Encouragement and enthusiastic backing is given to all
