A Company, 1st Battalion, 126th Aviation Regiment, Rhode Island Army National Guard, is located at the Quonset Armory, 104 Airport Street, North Kingstown, RI. Company A flies the Sikorsky UH-60A/L "Black Hawk". Soldiers in this unit are trained as Helicopter Pilots, and Helicopter crew chiefs (MOS 15A, 153D, 15T).
Company A storied past traces back to the early 1970's with the flying attack and light utility missions. In 1978 the unit provided support to the citizens of Rhode Island during the Blizzard of 1978. Company A would continue to fly UH-1's until 2001 when the unit received their first UH-60 Blackhawk.The unit's tenured past includes numberous overseas deployments and support to the citizens of Rhode Island during national and local emergencies. Soldiers in the unit are trained to transport troops and equipment in any type of condition to include day, night, and in severe weather.
Unit Deployments include: Operation New Horizon 2004 - Honduras, Operation Iraqi Freedom III, and recently Operation Beyhond the Horizon 2009-Dominican Republic. Today, the citizen Soldiers of Company A, Rhode Island Army National Guard, continue to answer the call of duty to defend the nation and provide emergency services to the state of 'Rhode Island and its residents.
