RHODE ISLAND GUARD SOLDIER KILLED IN AFGHANISTAN
Staff Sgt. Timothy Raymond McGill, 30, of Ramsey, N.J. died Sept. 21, 2013 in eastern Afghanistan, from wounds received by small arms fire.
McGill was assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion 19th Special Forces, Rhode Island National Guard as a weapons sergeant in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
RHODE ISLAND GUARD SOLDIERS RECEIVE AWARDS
Major General Kevin R. McBride, Adjutant General of Rhode Island and Commanding General of the Rhode Island National Guard announces that Soldiers of the 169th Military Police Company will receive awards for their actions during the unit’s recent deployment to Afghanistan. The ceremony will take place on Saturday September 14, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, R.I. at 8:30 a.m.
NATIONAL GUARD DECOMMISSIONS AIRCRAFT
The Rhode Island National Guard’s two C-23 Sherpas will depart Quonset Air National Guard Base on Tuesday at 10 a.m., to be decommissioned in Oklahoma later this week.
169th MP COMPANY RETURNS
The 169th Military Police Company of the Rhode Island Nation Guard, located in Warren RI, will return to the Quonset Air National Guard Base after a ten-month deployment at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 15, 2013.
2013 Leapfest Canceled
Due to the policies and directives under the current sequestration, Rhode Island National Guard officials regretfully announced that the 2013 Leapfest, the Annual International Static Line Parachute Competition scheduled for August in West Kingston has been canceled today.

Due to the policies and directives under the current sequestration, the Rhode Island National Guard officials regretfully announced that the 2013 Open House and Air Show scheduled for June 29-30, Quonset Air National Guard Base has been canceled today.
