RHODE ISLAND GUARD SOLDIERS RECEIVE AWARDS
CRANSTON, RI – Major General Kevin R. McBride, Adjutant General of Rhode Island and Commanding General of the Rhode Island National Guard announces that Soldiers of the 169th Military Police Company will receive awards for their actions during the unit’s recent deployment to Afghanistan. The ceremony will take place on Saturday September 14, 2013 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, R.I. at 8:30 a.m.
The awards to be presented are:
One (1) Bronze Star Medal with Valor to SGT Quinn Rogan
One (1) Army Commendation Medal with Valor to SSG Michael Church
One (1) Purple Heart to SSG Michael Church and SGT Quinn Rogan
Twelve (12) Bronze Star Medals to members of the 169th MP Co.
The Bronze Star Medal with Valor, Army Commendation Medal with Valor and Purple Hearts will be awarded for individual actions on December 2, 2012.
Rogan on duty at the time received shrapnel wounds from a vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) while manning the base defense tower. Church, the Non Commissioned officer in charge of defensive operations, also received wounds from the same blast. Both Soldiers continued to engage the enemy while wounded and significantly contributed to repelling the enemy attack and securing the base perimeter.
